It seems our obsession with big is over. While the Big Pineapple, Big Prawn and Big Potato (yes, potato!...note it only gets 2 1/2 stars on trip advisor!) will live on, the advent of the smaller living space has meant huge outdoor spaces have now become more compact. Combine that with a generation that want their cake and to eat it too… the design challenge is to maximise a tight outdoor living space – so we get maximum use in minimal space.
Enter The Furniture Shack. With a network of brick and mortar stores, these guys have really got their ear to the ground when it comes to styling trends. ‘We essentially build our range off the back of customer feedback’ said co-owner Shaun Green. ‘We take ideas to the stores – we see what our customers react to – get them to test it and from their our range decisions are made’.
The team have been pushing for a bigger range of compact outdoor pieces. Items that can be multi purpose but don’t take up their entire outdoor area.
‘We have had to think outside the box and find ways to use every bit of space’. Our Torquay suite is a great example of this. The chairs tuck in and away under the table – so the space waste is very minimal. We also looked at chair design and found a folding design that can essentially be put away with minimal storage when not in use. We've also introduced an oval table, which means you can get an 8 seat table into a really tight entertaining space'.
